Highlights of Advocates in Action

National Council of Dementia Minds is a community of educators and advocates living with dementia who are transforming the worldview of Neurocognitive Disorders. We are the nation’s first nonprofit organization founded and governed by persons living with dementia. We are proud to highlight just a few of our recent advocates in action.

Nia Mostacero

Nia Mostacero Serving on the Department of Defense Peer-Reviewed Alzheimer's Research Program

As a retired US Air Force veteran, Nia continues to serve her country by accepting the invitation to serve as a consumer of the programmatic panel of the Department of Defense Peer-Reviewed Alzheimer's Research Program. The program seeks to support transformative research on the intersection of traumatic brain injury and Alzheimer’s Disease and related dementias. It prioritizes efforts aimed at improving diagnosis and prognosis now – including methods, technologies, patient access and education, and accuracy. Click here to learn more.

Linda Brewster

Linda Brewster Appointed to the Alzheimer's Association National Early-Stage Advisory Group

Linda Brewster, PhD has recently been appointed to the Alzheimer’s Association’s National Early-Stage Advisory Group (ESAG). Linda is the first-ever resident of the State of Wyoming to be appointed to ESAG. She and other ESAG members bring the voice of individuals living with dementia to the national forefront. Key efforts from members include increasing awareness, enhancing care and support, advancing public policy, and accelerating research. Click here to learn more about ESAG.

Dr. Arnold Beresh

Dr. Arnold Beresh named 2023 Michigan’s Older Adult of the Year

Dr. Arnold Beresh (Arnie) is recognized for his life of volunteerism and service with the 2023 Michigan’s Older Adult of the Year Award. Arnie serves on the Board of Directors of National Council of Dementia Minds and has volunteered for the Alzheimer’s Association for 20 years. The Association recently awarded the 2023 Michigan Advocates of the Year to Arnie and his wife, Michele. Click here to read more about Arnie’s accomplishments.
